Simple Indoor Maintenance for a Comfortable Summer
- Turn off your HRV before turning on your AC unit.
- Wash your windows and doors, including the screens.
- Replace the batteries in your smoke detectors and carbon monoxide detectors.
- Clean your HRV filters by rinsing them under warm water; let air dry.
- Keep furniture and drapery away from air vents to maintain proper airflow.
- Adjust air vents to cool rooms furthest away from the thermostat.
- Check interior caulking and touch up.

Enjoy Your Outdoor Living Spaces
- Ensure downspouts are extended and directing water away from your home’s foundation.
- Clean your deck/patio area with a pressure washer as needed.
- Spray the outside of your air conditioner lightly with water to remove any dirt/debris that may be stuck in the fins (water will not harm your air conditioner, but make sure the unit is turned off).
- Inspect and clean outdoor play equipment.
- Schedule routine maintenance.
- Clean eavestroughs and gutters as needed.

Close blinds or curtains during the hottest part of the day (typically noon to 3:00 p.m.) to block heat from the sun and reduce the workload on your air conditioner.
For added comfort, set your ceiling fan to rotate counterclockwise in the summer. This pushes cool air downward, helping rooms feel cooler without adjusting the thermostat and can make the room feel up to 10 degrees cooler!
