A Manitoba summer is worth the wait. After a long winter, these days of sunshine and blue skies should be celebrated. There’s no better way to celebrate summer, and embrace your outdoor living space, than by having a few friends over for a backyard barbeque.

We’ve curated some of the most delicious, kid-friendly drink recipes from around the globe that are sure to impress your dinner guests. With these easy recipes, you can experience a world of flavours from the comfort of your backyard, cool off, and toast to a beautiful summer’s day.

Pineapple Agua Fresca inspired by the flavours of Mexico City.

This simple, three-ingredient juice is sweet and refreshing.

Ingredients

  • 1 pineapple
  • 4-6 cups water
  • ½ cup sugar

Instructions

  1. Chop the pineapple into pieces and remove the core.
  2. Add the sugar and pineapple to a blender.
  3. Blend until smooth.
  4. Add the pineapple mixture and water to a large pitcher.
  5. Mix until combined.
  6. Refrigerate until chilled
  7. Taste for good measure.
  8. Serve in a glass over ice.
  9. Enjoy!

 

 

Thai Iced Tea inspired by the flavours of Thailand.

This creamy drink combines tea and spices for an extremely flavourful taste and gorgeous colour. This tea can easily be made vegan.

Ingredients

  • 2 tablespoons loose-leaf black tea
  • 1 piece star anise
  • 2 pods cardamom
  • Optional: 1/2 cinnamon stick
  • Optional: 1/8 vanilla bean
  • 1 cup water (boiling)
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 1 tablespoon sweetened condensed milk
  • 2 teaspoons evaporated milk (or coconut milk or whole milk)
  • Garnish: mint leaves

Instructions

  1. Steep the tea, star anise, cardamom, optional cinnamon stick, and vanilla bean in boiling water for 5 minutes.
  2. Strain the tea.
  3. Stir in the sugar and sweetened condensed milk until both are completely dissolved.
  4. Fill two tall glasses with ice
  5. Pour the tea over the ice, leaving an inch or so of space at the top for the evaporated milk.
  6. Top up with more ice if needed, and drizzle with 1 teaspoon each of evaporated milk.
  7. Add mint leaves for garnish.

 

 

Non-alcoholic Mango Rooibos Sangria inspired by the flavours of South Africa.

This non-alcoholic sangria is made with Rooibos, a bright red African tea. It is fruity, flavourful, and perfect for a summer day.

Ingredients

  • 1250ml boiling water
  • 4 rooibos tea bags
  • 1 cup apple juice
  • 2 fresh mangoes
  • 1 apple
  • 2 peaches
  • a few torn sprigs of mint
  • fresh raspberries and mint leaves for garnish
  • ice cubes

Instructions

  1. Steep the tea bags in boiling water for 15 minutes.
  2. Remove the tea bags and place the tea in the fridge for at least 4 hours to chill.
  3. Peel one mango and chop into chunks.
  4. Mash mangoes into a smooth pulp.
  5. Add this to the chilled tea and whisk to mix well.
  6. Peel the other mango and cut into small cubes.
  7. Slice the apple and peaches into thin slices.
  8. Add fruit to the tea and mango mixture with a few torn sprigs of mint.
  9. Place the tea back into the fridge and let it chill for another 2 hours.
  10. Mix well and serve over ice with a few raspberries and mint for garnish.
