Key Responsibilities:
Leadership & Team Management
- Lead, mentor, and develop a team of residential drafters and architectural technologists
- Establish and enforce drafting standards, templates, and workflows
- Manage team capacity and assign projects based on priorities and timelines
- Conduct performance reviews, training, and continuous development
Drafting & Design
- Oversee the preparation of construction drawings including:
- Production homes
- Semi-custom and fully custom homes
- Multi-family residential (duplexes, townhomes)
- Review and approve drawings for accuracy, constructability, and completeness
- Ensure compliance with:
- Manitoba Building Code
- Local municipal zoning bylaws (e.g., setbacks, lot coverage, height restrictions)
- Energy efficiency requirements (e.g., insulation values, ventilation standards)
- Maintain and evolve standard plan libraries and construction details
Permitting & Regulatory Coordination
- Oversee preparation and submission of permit-ready drawing packages
- Coordinate with municipalities such as City of Winnipeg Planning, Property and Development and other Manitoba jurisdictions
- Ensure drawings meet requirements for:
- Development permits
- Building permits
- Variances and conditional uses (as required)
- Respond to plan check comments and revisions from authorities
Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Work closely with:
- Sales teams to translate customer selections into final plans
- Estimating to ensure cost-effective designs
- Construction/site supervisors to resolve field issues
- Provide technical guidance on constructability and sequencing
- Support value engineering initiatives
Technology & Systems
- Oversee and optimize use of:
- AutoCAD and Revit
- Maintain digital libraries of standard details, options, and elevations
- Evaluate and implement new tools to improve productivity and coordination
Qualifications:
Technical Knowledge
- Deep understanding of:
- Manitoba and National Building Code
- Wood-frame residential construction methods
- Building envelope, insulation, and ventilation systems suited to Manitoba climate
- Experience with municipal permitting processes across Manitoba
- Proficiency in AutoCAD and Revit

Education & Experience
- Diploma or degree in Architectural Technology or a related field
- 8–12+ years of residential drafting/design experience
- 3–5+ years in a leadership role within a homebuilding or construction environment
- Strong experience with Canadian residential construction practices
